Abstract (Document Summary)

Back in 1985 while Anne Arundel men's basketball coach, [Bruce Springer] played David Chapman in a season-opening tournament in Frederick. Anne Arundel won both games but had to return the trophies because Chapman was ineligible.

Springer never checked it out and let Chapman play. It was a procedure that a veteran coach such as Springer should have known. The Pioneers forfeited both games, and Chapman was dismissed from the team.

Since 1985, Anne Arundel has experienced a lot of changes, including an overhaul of the athletic department. That ledto the eventual resignations of Athletic Director John Laycock, Springer as basketball coach, [Alan Pastrana] in football, Carol Taylor as an assistant athletic director, Skip Brown in baseball and Mike Ballas in men's lacrosse -- all of whom had been coaching in the neighborhood of 20 years or more at Anne Arundel.
