 Abstract (Document Summary)

Dozens of Dorsey-area residents packed the Howard County Council chambers last night to urge closure of a smelly composting facility neighbors blamed for severe headaches, sinus infections, declining home values, flooding and even dangerous snakes.

The composting facility, which is designed to turn 30,000 tons of yard waste into mulch each year, is a joint project of Howard, Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties. It sits on the Howard-Anne Arundel border in Dorsey.

Smell is not the only problem, said Irona Finn of Ohio Avenue. "I take sinus medication at night, and I wake up in the morning with a huge sinus headache," Finn said. "My headache is crazy, and I've seen a lot of snakes lately."
