Abstract (Document Summary)

Cleveland: OF Milton Bradley began a 20-day rehabilitation assignment Tuesday at Class AAA Buffalo. Bradley has been on the disabled list since May 2 with a broken orbital bone under his left eye. . . . RHP Jaret Wright pitched two innings in an extended spring game in Winter Haven, Fla., on Monday and reported no pain in his shoulder. Wright has been on the disabled list since the start of the season as he continues his rehabilitation from offseason shoulder surgery. . . . RHP Jake Westbrook, on the disabled list since the start of the season after elbow surgery in spring training, threw a 40-pitch batting practice session Monday. There's no timetable for his return.

Kansas City: RHP Blake Stein was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday after a magnetic resonance imaging exam detected a partial tear of a tendon attached to the bone in his upper left leg. Stein was injured while fielding a bunt Sunday. . . . RHP Brad Voyles was brought up from Class AAA Omaha to take Stein's roster spot. . . . C Brent Mayne, who had not played since April 29 because of back spasms, was activated Tuesday after two games with Class AA Wichita on a rehab assignment. With Mayne activated, rookie C Juan Brito was optioned to Wichita. Brito hit .304 in nine games, but the Royals went 1-7 when he was the starting catcher.

New York: LHP Andy Pettitte, who left Sunday's rehabilitation start an inning early saying his elbow felt fatigued, reported no problems after a bullpen session Tuesday. He is scheduled to make his third rehabilitation start Friday. . . . Manager Joe Torre said LHP Sterling Hitchcock, recently activated from the disabled list, is still trying to get his arm strength back. Hitchcock gave up four runs in 1 2/3 relief innings Monday. 2B Alfonso Soriano remains day-to-day with a stiff left hip flexor muscle after he slipped in the shower Monday. RHP Ramiro Mendoza flew to Panama on Tuesday morning after his grandmother died. He will miss two games.
