Abstract (Document Summary)

As a precursor to the U.S. Open, the Springfield Lasers, led by David Wheaton, face the Philadelphia Freedoms, led by Lisa Raymond, Saturday in the 2001 Tyco World TeamTennis (WTT) league final at the USTA National Tennis Center in Queens, N.Y.

The WTT action begins on Court No. 11 at 2 p.m., following Arthur Ashe Kids' Day festivities in the stadium. The format, originated by Billie Jean King and former husband Larry King, features co-ed teams - - two men, two women and a coach. Each match consists of five sets: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.

Sticky situation: Who you gonna call when tennis fans gum up the U.S. Open grounds with wads and wads of used (yuck!) chewing gum? GumBusters, naturally.
