Abstract (Document Summary)

Now a 5-year-old, Waquoit - owned by Joseph Federico, a distant cousin of the trainer - has won 19 career races and $1,901,360. This year he has won three of six races, including the Oct. 18 Jockey Club Gold Cup and the July 23 Brooklyn Handicap.

His handlers have great confidence in Waquoit, who was bought for $15,000 because Joseph Federico had to pay a $360,000 supplemental fee to make him eligible to the Breeders' Cup. That's because the colt was not nominated to the program as a yearling.
