Abstract (Document Summary)

WASHINGTON - Joe Gibbs, a coach of monk-like dedication, was in a party mood after his Washington Redskins routed the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXII.

[Jack Kent Cooke] also didn't flinch at the start of last season when the Redskins kept [Doug Williams] as a $475,000 backup to [Jay Schroeder]. Though he started just two regular-season games in '87, Williams was moved into the No. 1 spot for the playoffs and was Super Bowl MVP.
