Abstract (Document Summary)

Barry Manilow: Swing Street (Arista, record, cassette, compact disc) - Whether you love or loathe Manilow - personally, Barry's never been my bag - there's no denying that Swing Street has its moments. Specifically, a title song that fully realizes Manilow's intention of enlivening his repertoire with the sounds of cool jazz and swing. Similarly, Big Fun lives up to its title. But despite a roster of guest players like Stan Getz and Gerry Mulligan, Swing Street is dominated by too much lightweight fare. The world doesn't need another cover of Summertime, and Brooklyn Blues is likely to make the Dodgers glad they left.
