Daly's own roots can be traced in [Alex Haley]'s film chronicle of his family's odyssey. His father, James Daly (who died in 1978), played RCM Boyce in Roots: The Next Generation; his former brother-in-law, Georg Sanford Brown (once married to Daly's sister, actress Tyne Daly) was Tom in Roots and Roots: The Next Generation.

Unlike Haley _ who spent the better part of his adult life searching for his roots _ Daly favors the here and now.

Part 1 of CBS' Queen blew away the competition Sunday in 23-city overnight ratings. Queen drew 35% of viewers, compared with NBC's Lucy and Desi special (21%) and ABC's Dick Tracy (14%). Part 2 airs tonight at 9 ET/PT.
