Abstract (Document Summary)

Former Olympic speedskater Bonnie Blair, who won more gold medals than any American woman in an Olympic sport, still is collecting plaudits.

Today, Blair, 34, who won five gold medals and one bronze in women's 500- and 1,000-meter speedskating competition from 1984-94, will be honored as the 1999 recipient of the Women's Sports Foundation's Flo Hyman award.

The award, given to a female athlete who "exemplifies the same dignity, spirit and commitment to excellence as the late Olympic volleyball great Flo Hyman, will be presented to Blair at a luncheon honoring National Girls and Women in Sports Day in Washington, D.C.
