PHOENIX - Jim Steeg still remembers the laughter in the ballroom when Indianapolis made its irreverent presentation to host Super Bowl XXVI.
But Minneapolis had the last laugh, promising a unique northern Super Bowl where fans would "party under glass," using a 19-mile skyway. Indianapolis got the rave reviews for its Joe Isuzu show; Minneapolis got the Super Bowl.
[Mike] Lynn began twisting arms at a wild Super Bowl meeting in 1985, when 14 cities bid for Super Bowls XXI and XXII. Weary owners sat through 13 ballots without a winner. Philadelphia, of all cities, arrived with a prancing string band and almost stole a frozen Super Bowl.
