"Bang, bang, bang, bang," [Kiefer Sutherland] says deliberately as he rushes forward, expressing bemusement at having to voice the gunshots. As the scene ends with the bad guys lying in the dirt, he dryly assesses an outcome he has seen before: "[Jack Bauer] wins again."
If Jack Bauer has an enviable performance record, then Sutherland is not doing too badly either. His portrayal of the CIA operative earned him a Golden Globe in January and an Emmy nomination. The first year of 24 -- which is reprised in its entirety starting midnight Sunday ET/PT on FX -- is up for best drama, too, at the Emmys Sept. 22.
In last season's 24 hours, Jack twice saved presidential candidate David Palmer from assassination, caught the plotters and rescued his wife and daughter from kidnappers. The coming season looks as if it will be another adrenaline rush, with Palmer asking Jack's help in thwarting a terrorist attack in L.A.
